All Stars Tournament Information for Parents

1.                  What is the All Stars Tournament?

Tournament play is defined as games conducted under approved district and higher level brackets to determine Regional winners for participation in the Little League World Series.    All leagues which hold participating charters are eligible to compete and by acceptance of Regulations are required to continue until defeated.  Major League, Junior League, Senior League, Big League, and 9-10 Year Old Division Softball Tournaments are authorized.  Each team may have 14 players, 1 manager, and 2 coaches.

2.                  When is the All Stars Tournament?

The local tournament for District 6 begins the last weekend in June.  State tournament begins roughly the third weekend of July.  Sectionals are in late July to early August.  Regional begins in early August.

3.                  How does WBLL select All Stars?

All players on the active rosters are eligible for selection to the All Stars teams.  Consistent with Little League guidelines, we have adopted a 3-step process for each age level:  the girls’ vote, the managers’ vote, and the Board’s vote.

Girls’ Vote

a.                   Each girl will submit an intention form declaring her desire to be considered.

b.                  Girls vote by ballot for 14 players in their own division (9-10’s vote for 9-10’s; 11-12’s vote for 11-12’s; Juniors vote for Juniors; Seniors vote for Seniors).

c.                   The Division Rep will tabulate the votes.  The top 14 will get 1 cumulative vote each at the next step of the selection process.

Managers’ Vote

a.                   Managers ONLY will vote by ballot for 14 players in a division.

b.                  At a called meeting of managers by division, the Division Chair will tabulate votes of each manager plus the cumulative girl vote.  Girls who receive a unanimous vote will automatically be named to the team.

c.                   If there are not 14 players selected unanimously, one of several steps may be taken to fill the roster:

·         by agreement of the managers, the players with the next highest number of votes may be named to the team.

·         managers may speak on behalf of a player and a new vote may be taken.

·         if the roster cannot be filled by a clear vote, the managers may agree to defer to the All Stars manager to select the last player(s).

Board of Directors’ Vote

a.                   The Division Chair will present the names of the team to the Board for final approval.

4.                  What is expected from players and parents during All Stars Tournament?

a.                   To be selected for these teams is an honor and therefore requires commitment from those selected.  Unlike some Leagues, WBLL does NOT require a player to choose between Little League and ASA or Slow Pitch or camp or vacation or church activities.

b.                  Regular practice is mandatory.  Most managers practice daily about 2 hours.

ANY PLAYER WHOSE ABSENCE, FROM PRACTICE AND/OR TOURNAMENT GAMES, BECOMES A PROBLEM FOR THE MANAGER MAY BE REMOVED FROM THE TEAM BY VOTE OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS.  A PLAYER MAY BE REPLACED.

c.                   Fund-raising is REQUIRED of all players on the All Stars teams.

[each League helps pay for the tournament – balls, umpires, entry fee; team parties; travel expenses for team and 5 chaperones]

d.                  Parents pay for socks, hat/visor if team chooses to have one, and optional items which may be offered including souvenir t-shirts, pin, sliding pads, team photo. Socks and hat/visor are provided by WBLL. These are part of the uniform and they all must match.

 5.                  How does WBLL select the All Stars Manager?

Any manager wishing to be considered for All Stars manager must complete an intention form and submit it to the Division Rep.  The Rep will report to the Board and the Board will vote on the Manager for each age group.  League standings have no bearing on the selection.  The Manager will name the two coaches who will then be approved by the Board.

         Guidelines:

a.                   The All Stars manager should have managed in the division during the regular season.

b.                  The coaches should have managed or coached in the division during the regular season.

c.                   If a candidate is not available, the Board may appoint a manager or coach from a different division to fill the position of All Stars Manager or Coach.
